Mission & Role

• Protect Sierra Leone's territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
• Conduct coastal patrols and surveillance.
• Prevent smuggling, illegal fishing, and other maritime crimes.
• Support riverine operations and provide waterway security.
• Assist in national development projects involving waterways.

Core Capabilities

• Patrol Boats: For coastal and riverine security.
• Fast Attack Craft: For rapid response and interdiction.
• Maritime Surveillance: Monitoring waterways.

Structure

The Navy operates from naval bases along the coast and major rivers, coordinating with other RSLAF units and maritime agencies.

Training & Recruitment

Navy personnel train in seamanship, navigation, weapons systems, engineering, and maritime law. Focus is on operating vessels and securing waterways.

Joining the Navy

Prospective sailors must meet the general recruitment requirements (age, education, fitness) and specific standards relevant to maritime service.

• Pass the BPFA (Body and Physical Fitness Assessment)
• Pass the Medical Examination (including fitness for swimming/drowning)
• Pass the Psychological Assessment
• Meet category-specific requirements
